NOTE TO READER: I understand law enforcement is a hot button issue in this day and age. I am not, however, interested in starting a debate on my blog.

Yes, I unequivocally support Police Officers. If you disagree with my politics, that’s your business. If so, I kindly ask you to click away and read something else. Thank you.

UPDATE 10/31/2020Originally, this blog was for a birthday fundraiser with a link to the page on Facebook. It’s now meant to be a general endorsement of the NPDF. A link to the organziation’s membership page is at the bottom of this post.

Boy! I am ONE day away from turning 29, the age I will be for the rest of my life! Don’t even ask how old I’ll be on Aug 3, 2021. The answer will, of course, still be 29. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For those who use Facebook, you should already know about their birthday fundraiser feature. Every year on your birthday, you can choose a nonprofit organization for you and your friends to donate to. It can be St. Jude’s, Wounded Warrior, the ADL, etc. Your fundraiser will last for 2 weeks and Facebook will not charge you or the nonprofit for the money you raised. Any amount will go straight to the organization of your choice. Simple as that.

A couple years ago I chose the Wounded Warrior Project because I believe that if you enjoy your way of life, you owe it to your country’s military. Simple fact is, if your military didn’t exist, another country would move in, subjugate your home, and coerce you into a different life altogether (most likely under tyranny). Wounded Warrior is dedicated to the well-being of soldiers returning from overseas and facing difficulties transitioning back to daily life.

They fought for us, now we have to fight for them.

This year, I want to dedicate my birthday to a different breed of warrior: the police officer.

The nonprofit I’m donating to, The National Police Defense Foundation, is committed to providing legal and psychological support for officers. Every so often, officers have their lives ruined by mendacious accusations of misconduct and even murder. They also suffer from PTSD from what they experience in the line of duty. The Foundation provides legal and psychological assistance to help with both.

This year has been a horrific year for law enforcement. Morale and public opinion are at an all-time low. Officers nationwide, and around the world, are being subjected to scrutiny and abuse because of the careless actions of the few.

And dare I say, a lot of these officers ended up killing these suspects out of defense, in spite of their de-escalation efforts. Every situation is different. It behooves oneself to learn all the facts that do not exist within a one-sentence newspaper headline.

Even if these officers are aquitted and have their names cleared after an interagency investigation, they cannot win in the court of public opinion.

Becoming a cop is an onerous process. Not only do you require a college degree, you’d also have to pass academy training, and psychological testing.

And it doesn’t even end there. Out in the field you’re going to handle an increasingly-hostile public. You will be monitored by your bodycam, dashboard cam, and HUNDREDS of smartphone cams when the crap hits the propeller. Your every move will go under the microscope.

Yes, some isolated incidents had cops abusing their power and causing unnecessary deaths, I’ll submit. If the evidence points to their guilt, throw the book at them. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ

Cops have millions of interactions with the public everyday. You know how many of these result in someone’s death? A mere fraction of a percent. A mere fraction that gets shamelessly magnified by the ratings-thirsty media. ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ“บ

If you think the profession is inherently bad, here’s some perspective:

Countless students get molested and sexually harassed by their teachers. Should we defund teachers for that? ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿซ

Thousands die from medical mistakes in the hospital every year. Should we defund doctors, surgeons, and nurses for that?๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€โš•๏ธ

You CANNOT demonize and defund an entire profession based on isolated incidents.

Police officers keep our communities safe and the perpetual criminal elements at bay. They deserve respect and support for putting themselves through the wringer on the daily. Mass media be damned.๐Ÿ”ฅ

The link to my birthday fundraiser is below. Your monetary support will mean a lot to me. More importantly, it will mean a lot to the Boys in Blue. As the years go by, you realize that birthdays are less about what you get and more about what you give. ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ’
